| 7 September, Linde German Masters
Went down to Cologne last Tuesday morning, for this week's Linde
German Masters. We are playing at Gut Larchenhof, which has been
hosting the tournament for many years now. Have had some really
good practice rounds, as well as the Pro Am earlier today. We had
a great time together and my game felt OK, even though I played
better on my first nine holes. Felt a little bit tired in the end.
This week will also be the start of the Ryder Cup race for me, one
of my goals for the season 2006. Had a nice bonus this week when
my bunker shot at the 72nd in the Deutsche Bank was named RBS Shot
of the Month for August and I got to donate a £1000 cheque
to the charity of my choice. I had put in a lot of bunker practice
with some tips from Tony Johnstone, so I was pleased to see it all
pay off. I'm off the 10th tee tomorrow morning at 08.30, together
with Kenneth Ferrie and Bradley Dredge. See you then! Niclas.
8 September, Linde German Masters, 69 (-3)
Started off the 10th tee today and was -4 under for the round after
six holes, but played very average as it pretty much took me nine
holes to get into my game. I was a little bit lucky on my first
hole, as my tee shot went way left, 20 yards off the fairway and
I had to chip it back. Then hit a lob wedge to two feet and made
par. Birdied 12 and continued on my eagle count for the year on
13. Hit a five iron second shot to 15 feet and holed it. Missed
a couple of short putts for birdie after that. Made a double on
16 after a very bad tee shot that landed in the green bunker. Also
missed a 3 feet putt for bogey. I was a little bit unlucky on 5
after my tee shot landed just off the fairway in the thick rough.
Had another good eagle chance on 7, reached the front of the green
in two, but chipped 3 feet past the hole and missed my putt for
birdie. Had a really good practice session on the practice facilities
afterwards. Will make a new attempt to shoot a low score tomorrow.
Tonight I am heading out to a restaurant in Cologne together with
my coach Graham and his girlfriend. I’m sure we will have
a great time. See you tomorrow. Niclas.
9 September, Linde German Masters, 71 (-1)
Things never really went my direction today. Started off the 1st
tee and made birdie. After three steady pars, I made another birdie
on 5 and then had a bad run with bogies on 6, 7 and 8, On 6 I hit
a good drive that bounced into the rough. Got a very bad lie and
could only chip it 50 yards from there. A bad wedge shot and bogey
in the end. Hit the bunker on the par-5 7th, then wedge and two
putts for next bogey. After the next disaster on 8 it took me quite
a while to get things going again, but I birdied 13 and 15 and was
close to making an ace on 16 to get a nice car. Bogied 17 and parred
the last for -1 for the round. I am tied 35th and hoping to score
much better tomorrow, Niclas
10 September, Linde German Masters, 65 (-7)
Played really good today and scored good as well, always a nice
combination. Started my round with birdies on 1, 3 and 4 with bogeys
on 2 and 5. On 2, I was really unlucky as my tee shot landed in
a bushes and I had to take a penalty drop to get out of there. Then
nothing really happened until 9 when I started a little birdie race
and got things going again. Birdied 9, 10, 11, 13, 15 and 17. The
latter was lucky after a tee shot into the thick rough, just off
the fairway. My putter was definitely hotter during today’s
round, 26 putts in total. Missed too many shots off the tee though.
But I reached all the par fives in two. Had a very good chance to
make eagle on 13 after an six iron close to the pin. I’m tied
10th only 4 behind the leaders right now and I have to start making
birdies early during my round tomorrow to have a chance. See you
then. Niclas. 11 September, Linde German Masters, 70 (-2)
Three birdies and one bogey today, which was a little bit different
scorecard compared to yesterday. I hit 15 greens and most fairways.
Reached all the par 5s in two and my game worked really nicely,
but I never got things goings. Bogied 2 after hitting it in the
greenside bunker. Hit a sand wedge to 4 feet on 5 for birdie. Frustratingly
parred all the way through to 15 where I two putted for birdie.
Birdied 17 as well after knocking another sand wedge to 5 feet.
I finished tied 12th and I am not 100% satisfied with the result
this week, but it has qualified me for Continental European Team
for the Seve Trophy next week. I have a golf day with my sponsors
Golfalot.com tomorrow, but other than that I will be relaxing and
practicing for that event. Speak to you then, Niclas.
